Bigleaf Maple:
The Bigleaf Maple is a magnificent tree found in the southwest region of British Columbia, thriving in low to mid elevations along moist, gravelly soils by riverbanks and lake edges. Known for its impressive growth, the Bigleaf Maple can reach heights of up to 36 metres, making it the largest and fastest growing maple native to Canada. The tree produces large, lobed leaves measuring 15 to 30 cm across and features greyish-brown bark.
This species not only provides sustenance for wildlife but is also valuable for its versatile uses. The wood is commonly used in crafting fine furniture, musical instruments, and various other items. Additionally, the sap can be enjoyed as a cooking glaze or in salads and desserts.
